The Sulphur Boys Golf Team qualified for the 3A State Tournament Monday at the Purcell Golf Course. The Dogs have qualified in 14 of the past 17 seasons (most in 3A during that time). Sulphur finished in 5th place shooting rounds of 322 & 321 for a 643 (36 hole total). The top 6 teams from the regional advanced to the State Tournament which will be held May 6th & 7th at Tulsa Country Club. 12 teams and 72 individuals competed in the event. Results for the Dogs were as follows:

15th Dawson Hinson – 78/79 = 157
18th Dawson Padgett – 83/76 = 159
20th Mason Lance – 80/81 = 161
24th Hunter Mann – 81/85 = 166
59th TJ Horn – 97/103 = 200

OU commit Jaxon Dowell of Oklahoma Christian School was the low individual shooting rounds of 72 & 68 for a 140 total.

“I was happy to see our guys play so well. Those were 2 of our lowest rounds of the year. Our regional is very tough and we knew we needed to play well to qualify. The boys have all been very consistent throughout the year. Hinson had 2 of his better rounds today. Padgett shot his lowest competitive round ever firing a 76. Mason has really stepped up and started playing some quality golf this year which has been big for us. Hunter played solid today as well but just had a few holes that kept his score from being much lower. It’s not easy making it to the state tournament and these guys have managed to do it the past 3 years. They’ve worked really hard so it’s nice to see them rewarded by making it back to the State Tournament. I’m really proud of them. Hopefully we can continue our solid play next week and see how high we can finish.” – Coach T
