Sulphur Basketball Hometown Hero: Mark Rogers

Last Tuesday night, the Sulphur Basketball teams honored Mark Rogers as its first Hometown Hero of the 2017-2018 basketball season.

Mark Rogers: United States Air Force

Mark entered active duty in the United States Air Force on January 12, 1987 and proudly served our country for the next 9 years and 9 months.  Mark was an E5 and and achieved the rank of Staff Sergeant.  Mark completed basic training at Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio, Texas. From there, Mark went to Biloxi, Mississippi where he completed his specialty training to become an air traffic control specialist.  After this training, Mark wqas stationed at Tinker Air Force Base in Midwest City, where he stayed the rest of his career.  Mark proudly served from August of 1990 to October of 1996 in support of “Opereation Desert Shield and Desert Storm”.  Mark was chosen as “Air Traffic Controller” of the year in 1992 while under the command of the 654th support group (AFMC).

Mark highly recommends any young person, male or female, to consider joining any branch of the service after graduating high school, either as a career or just one or two terms of service.  It will teach you discipline and give you motivation that will last a lifetime.

Mark and his wife Shelly have two children, Haley and Hayden, who both graduated from Sulphur High School.  Shelly is a teacher at Sulphur intermediate school.  Mark and his family have been loyal supporters and boosters of Sulphur Athletics and Sulphur Public Schools.
